The Name
Our name was inspired by the Rhone river in Europe as it was not only aesthetically beautiful but was also once a valued trade route. That’s exactly how we approach our products. We start with the world’s finest fabrics, pair them with cutting edge textile technology, and finish with an unmatched fit and style to create clothing that satisfies both form and function.
The Captain’s Stitch
Before we had determined our name, our logo, and our tagline, our three founders asked themselves what this brand would stand for. They recalled one of the stories famously told by Aesop about a man with several quarreling sons. One day the man asked his sons to gather a bundle of sticks. He bound the sticks together and asked each to try and break it. When they could not, he undid the bundle and handed them each an individual stick, which they each broke easily. The father then said to his sons, “My boys, united you will be more than a match for your enemies: but if you quarrel and separate, your weakness will put you at the mercy of those who attack you. Union is strength.” This interlocking stitch is a call for unity in an ever-divided world. It appears on every piece of clothing we make and is a simple reminder that together we are stronger.
The Tagline
Building best in class products is no easy task. In fact, it is a grueling process of trial, error, and at times unexpected success. We work tirelessly to ensure the products you order from Rhone exceed expectations, but we will be the first to tell you that we fail as much as we flourish. We encourage our team members to dare and achieve, which usually requires some amount of rebounds, recalibrations, and renewed efforts.
We believe in the admonition of Teddy Roosevelt in his stirring “Man in the Arena” speech in which he says,
“It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs, who comes short again and again, because there is no effort without error and shortcoming; but who does actually strive to do the deeds; who knows great enthusiasms, the great devotions; who spends himself in a worthy cause; who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who neither know victory nor defeat.”
