Smoothies are a great way to combine many different foods to create one powerful and healthy meal or snack. At On Target Living, we are often creating our own smoothies. We love coming up with new combinations of superfoods and different flavors. One of our favorite smoothies is the protein-packed strawberry and banana smoothie with flaxseeds, chia seeds and hemp seeds.  

Not too long ago, protein powders like whey took the nation by storm. What many people don’t know is that these heavily processed powders are very tough on your gut and our bodies have an extremely difficult time processing them through our systems. By incorporating specific seeds/nuts and real food into your diet instead, you’ll get the power you’re seeking from protein as well as a plethora of other health benefits. This is why we love Flaxseeds, Chia seeds and Hemp seeds. They are inexpensive and pack a powerful punch. A tablespoon of each in one smoothie will provide enough protein to replace protein powder. These seeds will also work towards improving your gut and brain health, inflammation and digestion. Flaxseeds in particular are antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal and have anticancer properties called lignans.  

Real food is a powerful ally. Small shifts every day lead to large impacts on our health. Just swapping out that protein powder for a natural alternative can make a substantial impact.

On Target Living Strawberry and Banana Smoothie Recipe 

Ingredients 

  • 1.5 C Almond Milk or any plant-based milk 

  • 1-2 C frozen strawberries 

  • 1T Flaxseeds 

  • 1T Chia seeds 

  • 1T Hemp seeds 

  • 1 banana 

Directions 

  • Blend all ingredients together in a blender and serve 

*makes approximately 1, 16oz smoothie
