To round out our Self Care month, we are talking all thing haircare this week on the Pursuit. We reached out to NYC based Master Groomer and Stylist Breno Miranda to share his expertise with us regarding all things haircare and beard care. But before we get into the nitty gritty, we caught up with Breno about his career, its highlights, and what men should start doing immediately when it comes to their hair. Here's what he had to say.

What’s your favorite part about being a hairstylist/master groomer?

There are two answers to this question. 1. I love working with my hands and using tools that require technical ability to master. 2. I love to look my best and teaching men to do the same.

If you could give every client one lesser-known tip about haircare, what would it be?

Stop shampooing your hair everyday! It is not a known fact but excessive washing  removes nutrients from the hair and leaves it dry.

Where did you do your training and how long does that take you? What do you do now to continue your education?

I got my training at the age of 18 originally from celebrity stylist and Business guru Tabatha Coffey. I then finished my training at Vidal Sassoon and Louis Licari Salon on 5th Avenue.

After over a decade of training it’s hard to find ways to improve  my education. I get inspired by other master craftsman and try my best to always make sure I’m giving my clients the best work possible.

You style for all kinds of clients at various events from celebrities, athletes, to your everyday Joe. What has been one of your most memorable experiences/events styling/grooming?

I have to say it’s when I was invited to do an extreme makeover live on stage at the Rachel Ray show. I cut 15inches if hair off a man that hasn’t had a haircut in years. The whole crowd was watching and to see the episode on ABC was very rewarding.

What’s one thing most men aren’t doing with regards to their hair or beard that they should start doing immediately?

I should say that with beards there isn’t much that they should start doing immediately other than groom it to look the best possible. But with hair I would tell them to stop washing it so much immediately. Rinsing and conditioner is fine everyday but not shampoo. Also switching to a sulfate free shampoo is a must.

If someone wants to come see you, where/how can they book an appointment?

They should reach out to me directly at my email brenomiranda87@gmail.com
