homemade dog treats
No one is happier that we're working from home than all our furry friends. While the gift of our company is great, we figured it was time to step it up a bit. We asked Zach Morgan to create the perfect at-home dog treat recipe and let's just say, he delivered. So carve out 20 minutes this weekend. It's time to make your pup's day.
INGREDIENTS
-
2 cups rolled oats (or 1 1/2 cups oat flour)
-
1 very ripe banana
-
1/2 to 3/4 cup peanut butter
-
For optional glaze: 1/4 cup coconut oil and 1 tbsp peanut butter
INSTRUCTIONS
-
Preheat oven to 375 F.
-
In a mixing bowl mash up the banana.
-
In a food processor or blender grind the oats until fine. Add ground oats to the bowl with the banana.
-
Put 1/2 cup peanut butter into a microwave-safe bowl and microwave for 30-45 seconds, until melted and runny. Add peanut butter to your mixing bowl. (Try to use a natural peanut butter that doesn't contain sugar or palm oil.)
-
Using your hands, mix oats, banana, and peanut butter until they form a cohesive dough that sticks together. If the dough is a little too dry or crumbly you may need to add more peanut butter.
-
Turn out dough onto a work surface and roll out to about 1/2 inch thick. Use cookie cutters or a ring mold to cut out treats. If you don't have any then you can just use a knife to cut it into small square treats.
-
Place treats on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for about 12-15 minutes. Remove and let cool.
-
While the treats are cooling, put 1/4 cup coconut oil and 1 tbsp peanut butter into a microwave-safe bowl and microwave for about 90-seconds or until fully melted. Mix together well and then drizzle glaze over treats. Allow it to cool and the coconut oil to set. (Coconut oil can be really beneficial for dogs skin and coat as well as their digestion!)
-
Now spoil your dog with treats!
