It’s no secret that the pandemic drastically changed the fitness industry and the ways in which we seek out movement. That to say, while there was a shift out of the gyms due to forced closures and safety precautions, the need move remained strong. And while in-person group classes have yet to feel like they once did, the desire to not only seek out but to hold onto some sense of community has been a common thread since we were forced to find ways to sweat within the confines of our home. Lucky for us, there has been a flood of online class offerings to keep us moving and connected. One of which is Barry’s X–a new take on the ever popular Barry’s Bootcamp. We caught up with Barry’s trainer Erick Wilson to talk about what sets Barry’s X apart and what you can expect when you log in for class.

If you had to describe Barry’s X in two sentences, what would it be? In one word?

INNOVATIVE

What was the inspiration behind the creation of Barry’s X?

It was extremely important for us to remain connected to our community during the pandemic. When it became clear the shutdown was going to have a severe effect on our community, we immediately launched IG live workouts to keep our community moving and then developed our first digital product, Barry’s At-Home, which laid the foundation for Barry’s X.

How is Barry’s X different from other at-home programs people might find

How do you think the changed landscape over the past year and a half has influenced the fitness industry?

To say that the pandemic has impacted the fitness industry would be an understatement. It accelerated the digital fitness boom in which we’re experiencing right now and led to the launch of Barry’s X which allows us to offer a premium omni-channel experience that serves a broader audience. We do expect there to be a rise in hybridization whereby consumers engage in both in person and digital workouts.

What can people expect when they “show up” for class?

They can expect personalized attention from their instructor and the opportunity to see and be seen by their Fit Fam! What we mean by that is people will have the opportunity to turn on their cameras and interact with their fit fam in class, just as they would in the Red Room.

What equipment do you recommend people have at home to make the most out of classes?

We have a variety of classes to choose from that incorporate bodyweight, bands and weights - all of which we sell on our website!

What do you think people need and/or are looking for the most right now in terms of fitness?

Community and connection.
